Packages

There are no binary GnomeSword packages that are supported by the GnomeSword developer team.

There are some unoffical binary packages from several contributors, but we do not speak for them. They are contributions by those who participate in the GnomeSword mailing lists. Note that updated binary packages may not be available immediately upon release of new source tarballs.

If you have packages to contribute or information on how to build them for a specific distribution, please let us know.

Note

GnomeSword operates using support from Sword. Current GnomeSword requires Sword version 1.5.10 or later (source).

You can find ready-to-use binaries of Sword libraries for a number of common Linux configurations at the BibleTime SourceForge area. If you use these, you will need to get both Sword itself as well as CLucene (because their build environment requires it). Building GnomeSword using these library binaries requires that you have both the regular and -devel packages installed of both libraries (4 packages).

Note that if you choose to build GnomeSword with your own build of Sword, CLucene is not required.

Tarballs

Latest: 2.3.3

For more or maybe newer tarballs, look here.

CVS

GnomeSword no longer uses CVS; we are an SVN-based project. Introductory information on SVN usage can be found here.

SVN access

Check out the current SVN source tree with:

 svn co https://gnomesword.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gnomesword/branches/development gnomesword

Then build it with:

cd gnomesword/gnomesword
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
make
su
make install

Modules

The GnomeSword module manager provides automated download and installation support for all of the modules available from Crosswire in their standard module download area, or for any other repository set up to handle module manager access. See the links page for availability of additional modules.
